Total Synthesis of Biologically Active Molecules

In the constantly changing interaction between bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens, new and potentially better chemicals are needed to overcome the resistance that forms to modern drugs.  Nature has shown to be a great resource for treating diseases.  Scientists just needs to find the compounds, optimize positive pharmaceutical interactions and minimize the negative interactions.

A study into the regio- and stereo-controlled synthesis of these biologically active molecules allows for the complete derivatization of compounds to test their activity.  This work requires the controlled synthesis of molecules so they can be collabortatively tested for enhanced biological activity.
